Please be aware that not all organizations out there have structured programs, and may or may not, carefully screen those you may be living with or working for. For this reason we strongly recommend you ask a lot of questions before signing on to any organization especially if they require funds up-front to participate. Some also may also have requirements either educationally, or spiritually, that you may want to inquire about.

This should help you decide based on the length of stay, and whether you have nationalized health care/domestic health insurance at home. Please note: While BUPA is well known across Europe, it is often quite a bit more expensive than its competitors, such as Patriot or Atlas. (A big deal when you are trying to make your cash stretch as far as possible so you can travel farther and longer.) We also have an Atlas plan that includes adventure sports just in case you decide you might be participating in one of those more “risky” endeavors. Participants will need to decide if their trip is PRIMARILY for volunteering with some sports, or primarily sports-based with some volunteering. Of course, we can help you with either.
Most of these plans allow you to renew after 12 months or buy the policy for the exact length of time you will be needing it for. So if you decide to
extend your trip it should not be a problem to extend your insurance as well.
